New, cheap battery outshines alkalines

Bye bye Duracell!
Yesterday and today we covered Batteries (chapter 12). But there is a new one in town, and it will be available this summer!

"Panasonic will introduce AA and AAA disposable batteries in June that the company calls the 'most significant developments in primary battery technology in 40 years.'

According to Panasonic, these Oxyride batteries last up to twice as long as premium alkaline batteries like Duracell Ultra ($5 for four), yet cost the same as regular alkalines ($4 for four)."

Upon further reading of this article, Alkaline batteries can outlast the Oxyride ones, but only if you run the application continuously non-stop. In real world situations, switching the device on and off many times and over a long period of time, the Oxyride will outlast and out perform the Alkaline. But the main advantage is that the Oxyride is 13% more powerful (1.7volts vs 1.5 volts) so your device will perform better than on Alkaline batteries. And, oh yes, did I mention that they will be cheaper?!

  More Info on Oxyride Batteries
From the Panasonic website:

Oxyride™ Extreme Power AA batteries were developed as a way for you to get longer lasting performance from all of your high drain digital devices. These innovative new batteries last up to two times longer than traditional batteries in most digital cameras, and 1.5 times longer in other electronics, letting you maximize enjoyment of your digital life.

Oxyride™ Extreme Power is the next generation of batteries—with two major breakthroughs in innovative new materials and advanced manufacturing technology. The battery uses newly developed oxyhydroxide, which releases a high voltage to the manganese dioxide typically used in alkaline batteries. Then a new vacuum pouring technology allows inserting a higher quantity of electrolyte in the battery. This added power gives you quicker shooting for your digital photos, faster flash recovery, faster battery powered toys and brighter flashlights.
