Numbers

Today we covered more of the Engineering Notation (different from Scientific Notation in that the exponent has to be in powers of three).

Homework: read Chapter 2.
Tomorrow we will do some lab work, our very first, reading resistors and using a multimeter to help read them also.

Q: When is a Billion not a Billion?
By definition, in the UK a BILLION is a million times a million (or 1 times TEN to the power of 12).

But in the USA, a BILLION is only a thousand times a million (1 times TEN to the power of 9).

Talk about deflation!

So, there really are no billionaires in the world - if you go by the British* definition!

(* actually, the British, French and Germans all agree on this. Somehow, Americans think a Trillion is a million million, everyone else say it is a million million million. The "tri" part should give it away.)
